Interested in volunteering at Okizu?
Okizu has relied on over 10,000 volunteers to make camp a reality since we started in 1982! Volunteers help at camp, in the office, and at special events allow us to offer our programs to more than 3,500 individuals each year. We give staff and volunteers, some of whom were campers themselves, the emotional satisfaction of giving to an organization that is devoted to each family member. This giving is part of a circle of support that sustains the Okizu extended family.
“I had no idea how much I could learn from a group of six six-year-old boys. They were a lot of work, but so much fun!” — Summer Camp Volunteer
Family Camp Volunteers
Family Camp volunteers come to camp for a weekend to help us provide respite and peer support for patients, siblings, and parents. Volunteers are responsible for watching a group of campers in the mornings, helping with camp activities in the afternoons, and hanging out with campers and families in the evenings. Summer Camp Volunteers
SIBS and Oncology Camp volunteers come to camp for seven days and, after a day of staff training, are responsible for a group of seven to ten children, 24-hours a day for the week. Click here to learn more and apply.
Medical Staff
Medical supervision at camp is overseen by pediatric oncology staff from participating hospitals. These professionals volunteer their time because they enjoy being with the children outside of the hospital setting. Dr. Kent Jolly, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Roseville Medical Center, supervises the medical staff. Click here to learn more and apply.
Under-18 Volunteers
When Camp ran at Berry Creek, Under-18 Volunteers would assist on site to fill a couple of different roles at camp. These programs have been inactive since 2020 but we are hoping to bring back these valuable programs at our new site in Valley Springs in the coming years. Click here to learn more.
Fundraising Events
Special events benefiting Okizu are hosted throughout the year, all throughout Northern California. We are often looking for people to help at golf tournaments, auctions, runs, on committees, and more! Click here to learn more.
Special Projects
Occasionally we need help with office projects in Novato like collating, calling, or stapling. If you are interested in helping with clerical work, please email info@okizu.org or call 415.382.9083.
