Camp Okizu (pronounced oak-EYE-zoo) seeks a highly motivated, exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, charismatic and outgoing team player with a positive attitude for the position of Volunteer Experience Manager.
Okizu is a peer support and recreation camp program for Northern California families affected by childhood cancer. In the summer, we run seven week-long camping programs for pediatric oncology patients and their siblings and in the spring and fall, we run weekend-long programs for families, teens and young adults.
All our programs are staffed by wonderful volunteers, and the recruitment and retention of our volunteers is essential to our success. Our volunteers make a 9-day commitment to caring for children in an outdoor setting. The ideal candidate will have the enthusiasm, belief in our mission, and communication skills to engage and recruit volunteers. They will also be masters of data management and enthusiastic about managing the camp’s social media.
Our ability to serve our families is dependent on having an adequate number of the appropriate volunteers for each program, and the Volunteer Experience Manager is responsible for ensuring that we have the volunteers we need to run our programs. In partnership with the Camp Director, the Volunteer Experience Manager will ensure all volunteers are well trained and the program retains at least 50% of volunteer camp staff each year. The Volunteer Experience Manager will work and reside at camp while week-long camp program is in session.
Note: This position is based at the Okizu office in Novato, CA but is currently a remote position.
